The population of Nimbin in 2019,  is a very colorful and mixed group of people with a population of 1,477 in the Nimbin state suburbs. However, in the Nimbin urban local centre (Main village) the population is 453. Nimbin is known as the weed capital of Australia and receives thousands of tourists every year. Most of the tourists visit from Byron Bay which is 70km away from the village.

  • Nimbin has held a MardiGrass festival since 1993, where thousands travel from far and wide to rally for the end of cannabis Prohibition in Australia. 
  • Nimbin is home to a Hemp Embassy, selling everything related to hemp except cannabis itself. Or so they say!
  • Nimbin has a newspaper call the “Nimbin Good Times” distributed to the souring area, including Byron Bay and Lismore.
